West Surrey Events – Summer 2018

Throughout the Summer, we have been running events with our lovely participants to give them access to golf that is slightly different to our normal sessions. We have run two events so far in West Surrey, with a third one in the pipeline for later in the Summer.

Kites Club at Horton Park

Our first event of the Summer took place at Horton Park golf club with the wonderful Kites Club, part of The Sunnybank Trust which is funded by Epsom & Ewell Borough Council. Kites club aims to enrich the lives of people aged 18+ with learning difficulties within the community through inclusion and friendship. Kites club is all about trying new activities, developing hidden talents and practicing life skills, with golf being one of their favourites. We had 15 members join us at Horton Park for some golf and lunch.

We set up the session in three sections: the driving range, putting games and chipping games. The driving range gave the members the chance to give the ball a good old whack, while getting some expert tips from Jon and Karen. Our putting games took part on the putting green, where we challenged our participants to a variety of putting games, including the longest putt! The chipping challenges were a taste of some of the games that we play in our regular sessions, including Howzat and Bottle It, with points awarded for top scorers throughout the session.

We ended the morning with a lovely buffet lunch, with medals handed out to our top players of the day and wristbands awarded to all our golfers for being such starts!

60+ at Topgolf

Our second event was run for members of our 60+ groups from the Woodham & New Haw and the Eileen Tozer day centres. We had around 35 participants who tried their luck on the 14-hold crazy golf course at Topgolf, Addlestone. We then had a great lunch, with banter and analysis flowing from the fun of the morning.  Even better, many of the members enjoyed the event so much, they have already been back multiple times!

Yvonne, one of the members at Woodham & New Haw, was quoted saying ‘we had such a great time that we have already been back to the crazy golf course twice and have arranged a third time with friends of ours!’  A great day out was had by all!
