Turning Back Time at the Clockhouse, Milford

The Clockhouse Centre, Milford, Surrey provides a safe, sociable and stimulating environment for people over 50 years where they can socialise with their peer group and take advantage of the wide range of services on offer throughout the week.

Every Monday afternoon, we deliver a weekly 60+ golf session,  a project made possible by the generous support of The Wisley Foundation. Before we go on   to introduce you to some of the players it’s important to make you aware of the excellent pedigree that the Clockhouse Centre has as champion golfers, having previously been crowned as our Autumn 2016 League winners.  In addition, as part of the winning Autumn 2016 team, was 92 year old Audrey, who was our highest individual scorer across of our projects during that time period.   You can read more about Audrey’s story as part of the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign here: http://communitygolf.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/This-Girl-Can-Audrey-@-50.pdf

The centre’s previous success and Audrey’s tenacity to regularly beat her personal score has found us welcoming a number of 90+ participants keen to take part in this term’s golf sessions.  Bill and Eddie are 97 and 92 respectively and Betty and Ron are 93 and 98, proving irrefutably that age really is no barrier to playing golf with us.

Bill and Eddie were only separated by 5 points at the top of the leader board with 3 weeks to go, so it is very much still all to play for!  ‘Having scored consistently high throughout our league programme – with both men scoring 55 points on our ‘Bottle It’ game, Eddie came out as our overall winner, pipping Bill to the post by 10 points’

When asked about the golf, Bill remarked saying that “If a one-legged 97-year-old can do it, anyone can!”  Eddie added “It’s great fun and gets us active.  It’s a lot more fun than sitting in a chair in front of the TV all evening!”
