Day in the Life of a Golf Activator – Golf in the Park

After a very successful summer of golf in 2017, weekend Golf in the Park returned to Wandle Valley at Beddington and Wandle Parks on the 12th & 13th May 2018 respectively.

The basis of our Golf in the Park (GitP) projects are to provide anyone with the opportunity to play free golf in their local park surroundings, over two hours weekly. Golf is perceived to be difficult and at Community Golf, through our innovative GitP format, we aim to make it easier for people to pick up a club and have a go in a comfortable “no-frills” environment.

Families and friends get the chance to challenge themselves by playing up to 6 holes and alongside this, further test their ability with a variety of unique skills games, designed to suit all abilities. Using a scorecard and a few basic rules to keep track of progress, groups of families and friends can establish their own playing style in order to maximise their experience.

Dualle, our Activator has, been delighted to welcome players old and new and has had a great first five weeks with a new course layout at both parks alongside some fiendishly challenging skills games.

He said “With the sun shining it’s been really colourful with people spending on average half an hour playing golf.  People are loving playing at both venues and our yellow branding is attracting a lot of interest and attracting people to come over and play”.

The wonderful weather that we’ve all been enjoying has one downside, it’s made the grass grow quicker, but the Parks teams at both venues are doing their very best to ensure that it’s cut regularly, but occasionally it may be longer than ideal, so apologies in advance.

Dualle tells us that players have fed back that they “love the games”  and “have never played before but now wish to play more golf”.

At both Beddington and Wandle Parks there’s an added incentive for participants who come and play with us 3 times at either venue.  They can claim a free range balls voucher to play at The Oaks Golf Centre
