Community Golf calls out for votes to bag a share of Tesco Bags fund

Community Golf is bidding to bag a massive cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative. Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores awarded to local community projects. Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant. Community Golf is one of the groups on the shortlist. At Community Golf, one of our priority objectives is to promote exercise and activity for older people.  We do this by introducing our low impact 1-hour weekly sessions to the 60+ age group, which consists of putting and chipping skills games. Through our innovative format, we aim to make it easier for people to pick up a club and have a go in a comfortable “no frills” environment. Research has shown that exercise can improve both individual physical and mental well-being, so our 60+ programme enables all participants to have fun whilst being active with friends old and new.  The low impact intensity of golf means that it can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of ability, age or previous experience. Our adaptive equipment enables all abilities/disabilities the opportunity to play and for many, experience a sport new to them. Mandy Jarvis, Director of Operations, Community Golf, said: “We are absolutely elated to be shortlisted – this gives the local community the opportunity to help us continue with our much loved 60+...
