Community Golf promote the principle that golf is a game for everyone, regardless of age, gender, ability, background or circumstances. Our interactive low impact putting and chipping skills programmes are designed to remove all barriers, be fully inclusive and our objectives are to promote physical activity leading to improving people’s sense of physical and mental wellbeing. Through our innovative format, we aim to make it easier for people to have a go in a comfortable “no frills” environment. Specially adapted lighter clubs are used where needed to facilitate the participation of wheelchair users too.
Leading a healthier, more active lifestyle doesn’t necessarily mean running a marathon or going to the gym – it could be brisk walking, dancing the foxtrot, seated aerobics or a Community Golf session! Raising your heart rate for 30 minutes, several times a week can lead to both physical and mental health benefits, helping to manage many conditions such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke, joint problems and obesity, as well as lower the risk of other diseases such as Alzheimer’s and depression. The mental health benefits of golf include improved self-esteem, improved confidence, and reduced anxiety.** The social element of golf is well-renowned providing individuals with the opportunity to boost self-identity and social connections
Community Golf has, at its core, a belief that even ‘60+’ golf is a powerful enabler for all members of the community to stay active.
Community Golf sessions offer high quality, fun and engaging golf themed skills games that enable participants to work at their own pace. Our Activators will nurture participants by adapting each skill game to suit their ability to help them progress and build confidence. Participants are not given too much technical playing information as our adaptive format undertakes to provide a positive participation experience, enabling players to move from learning to hit the ball to learning to play the game.
We recognise the value that competitive sport can bring to community members irrespective of age and we offer the opportunity for them to compete in our Autumn/Spring/Summer leagues, alongside other community sites. This is done through a weekly scoring system where league prizes, medals and trophies are awarded for the best individual and team scores at the conclusion of each programme.
All Community Golf Activators are trained to deliver our programmes, hold up to date safeguarding certification, DBS checked and fully insured. They all have the skills to deliver fun and engaging sessions, whilst maintaining a safe adaptive environment for all participants involved.
As Dementia Friends, we have gained skills to improve different approaches to support those with dementia to play golf and stay active.
We offer taster sessions to enable you to discover what we do and how we do it in order to get you participating in our leagues alongside other groups in your area. Community Golf appreciate that tight budgets can cause barriers to participation, we will work with you to obtain funding with a view to developing a sustainable activity with each group. Should golf (indoors) be an activity that you wish to explore within your current activities budget please do not hesitate to get in touch.
